Title 1

Title 1 is a federally funded program; therefore written parent permission is required. Title 1 teachers at Glacier Hills are elementary certified. We work with students, grades K- 2, one-on-one or in small groups. Our students need reinforcement of their reading and/or math strategies/skills. Student selection is based on classroom teacher judgement, other reading & math assessments, Reading Recovery testing, and MAP test scores if needed. When working on reading strategies with students, we primarily use the guided reading & interactive writing approach, though for some students, we may need to adapt the supplemental reading approach, with more phonics and/or letter review. Title 1 is a pull-out program for reading, grades K-2 and for math grades 1-2. Our goal is to accelerate students to read and do math problems at their grade level.

The Title 1 program always strives for increased parent involvement. In addition to Title 1 teachers attending Open House, Parent Conferences, conducting Title 1 Family Nights and sending home reading and math activities, we will be adhering to the new law, "No Child Left Behind." During each school year, Title 1 staff will meet with volunteer Title 1 parents and gather their input to improve our Glacier Hills program.
