Dakota United claims second title in CI Division

Dakota United turned the tables on last year’s championship game, avenging its 2008 loss to Maple Grove. The Hawks defeated the Crimson 5-1 to capture their second title in CI Floor Hockey. Their last title was in 2006. The Hawks were seeded second in the south bracket, and the Crimson were seeded second in the north bracket. Both teams overthrew the number-one seeds in their semi-final games to earn their positions in the final game.

In the championship game, John Conway put the Hawks on the scoreboard with 5:08 remaining in the first period, with an assist from Joe Conway. With 35 seconds remaining in the period, Steven Kubinski made it 2-0 in favor of the Hawks. John Conway and Joe Conway pitched in on the assists for Kubinski’s goal. John Conway found the back of the net again in the second period, the period’s only goal. Maple Grove responded early in the third period, with an unassisted goal by Kamla Ramidhal. Dakota United bounced back with two more goals. John Conway netted his third, crediting another assist to Joe Conway. Kubinski got the Hawks’ fifth goal, with a Joe Conway assist. Stephen Kinsella was solid in nets for the Hawks throughout the match.

Dakota Hawks are State Runners-Up in CI Division

Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound-Westonka defeated Dakota United 8-2 in the title game. The game was tied 1-1 during the second period, and the Robins finished the second period with only a one-goal lead, 2-1. Dakota United’s Nick Habisch and Anthony Vervais scored the two unassisted goals against the Robins.
