How to Join the Eastview Debate Team

The Eastview debate season runs from the start of school until mid-December. The best time to join the team is during the second week of school. There will be informational meetings on Tuesday, September 9 (after school) and Wednesday, September 10 (before school). The first practice for novices is Thursday, September 11 (after school).

The most common way to join the team is to attend an informational meeting and then to come to the first practice. If this does not work for you, there are other ways to join the team. Sometimes students join the team in mid-late October, in time to debate the second topic of the season. Other students, because of a variety of circumstances, join the team at various times during the season. Generally, the debate team has an open door policy. Costs: The $50 participation fee for freshmen and $70 for grades 10-12 is a once per year fee that covers participation in activities like debate, speech, theatre, mock trial etc. Students can participate in any or all of these activities for the one fee. For debate, the fee is due before a students’ third competitive event (allowing a student to try debate for two events without paying the fee).
