Certification Programs
American Red Cross Training in CPR, AED & First Aid Skills
Do you need certification or Continuing Education Units (CEUs)? Earn American Red Cross certification by taking classes from Community Education. Or, learn First Aid and CPR online at your convenience! Call 651-683-6879 for more information.
Certification programs offer training for employment in aquatics, health, law enforcement and other professions. Programs include:
- GuardStart
Guard Start , today’s version of junior lifeguarding, is designed to guide youth into the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training program. This course builds a foundation of knowledge, attitudes and skills for future lifeguards.
- Lifeguarding
If you want to work as a lifeguard at a pool or waterpark, this course is for you! Become certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Waterpark Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR and AED for the Professional Rescuer. Attendance at all classes is mandatory.
Water Safety Assistant (WSA)
Do you seek employment as a swim instructor aide? This class is for you! CPR and First Aid training are included. (Ages 13 and up)
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
Become certified to teach American Red Cross Swim Lessons. Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) is included. Must be 16 years old by the last day of the class.
- CPR and First Aid
Be prepared with lifesaving skills! Learn how to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies for adults. Recognize and deal with emergencies including injuries and sudden illnesses. Hands-on experience with bandaging and splinting, assessing a victim, clearing an obstructed airway, rescue breathing, performing CPR and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Red Cross certification is available for most courses.
