Infants younger than 6 months of age have little or no immunity to pertussis, and they account for most pertussis-related hospitalizations and deaths in the U.S. Adult or adolescent contacts are often the source of pertussis for infants. To help protect these vulnerable infants and prevent pertussis in schools, Dakota County Public Health is encouraging Tdap vaccination for all eligible people - especially healthcare workers, parents and prospective parents, immediate and extended family members of infants, babysitters, and childcare providers.
The Dakota County Public Health Department has low-cost vaccines for adults and children who do not have health insurance that covers vaccinations. Call 952-891-7999 to get more information, find out the walk-in clinic schedule, or schedule an appointment.
