|Scheduling summer literacy assessments continues|
|(July 24, 2012)|
|The week of July 16, the parents and guardians of every child expected to be enrolled at a District 196 elementary school this fall received a letter from their child's school. The letter included the name of their child's teacher for the 2012-13 school year and asked parents to go online to register their child for a summer literacy assessment that will be conducted on August 21 and 22 at all 18 elementary schools in the district.
The summer literacy assessments will give all elementary teachers the achievement data needed to target instruction for their students from the first day of the school year. Summer assessments have previously been given to all incoming first graders in District 196 in order to identify students for the Reading Recovery program. This is the first year that literacy assessments will be given to all elementary students.
The assessments last 45 minutes each and will be conducted by classroom teachers from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21 and Wednesday, August 22 at all elementary schools in the district. Assessment times are being scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.
To access the assessment scheduler for your child's school, go to the front page of the school website and click on the icon that reads, "Schedule a Summer Literacy Assessment." First you will select your child's teacher and will be asked to provide your child's name and your email address. Once that information is submitted you will receive an email with a link to the schedule for your child's teacher. Select an available time and submit your selection. You may change the time of an assessment you previously scheduled. If you cannot find a time that fits your schedule or are having difficulty using the system, contact the office at your child's school.
District 196 serves approximately 27,500 students in early childhood, K-12 and special education programs combined, and offers community education programs for residents of all ages. District 196 includes all or part of Rosemount, Apple Valley, Eagan, Burnsville, Coates, Inver Grove Heights, Lakeville and Empire and Vermillion townships.
