ROSEMOUNT, Minn. -- The Rosemount High School boys' track team won the Class AAA Minnesota True Team Track and Field Championship held in Stillwater May 20. Rosemount finished with 851 points, 24 points more than second-place Eden Prairie and 100 points higher than Minnetonka in third.
The true team state meet is sponsored by the Minnesota Track and Field Coaches Association. The Minnesota State High School League also sponsors a state meet for boys' and girls' which will be held June 10-11. In true team competition, each Class AAA school is allowed three entries in each individual event and one entry per relay event. Each entry is placed and scored according to their official order of finish, making all entries equally important. In other tournament formats, the team championship is determined solely by the finish of the top performers who qualify for the finals in each event.
Of the 18 events, Rosemount had four first-place finishes, two seconds and four thirds. First-place finishes went to members of the 4 x 800-meter relay team and the 4 x 400-meter relay team, Andrew Hausmann in the 200-meter dash and Joe Bjorklund in the shot put. Chandler Dye and Sam Temple took second and third, respectively, in the 800-meter run, and Brandt Berghuis finished second in the discus throw. The other third-place finishes went to Shane McCallum in the 1,600-meter run and Hausmann in the 400-meter dash and triple jump. In the 3,200-meter run, Rosemount runners took three of the top six spots; McCallum, Nathan Rock and Calvin Lehn finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
