Math Recovery Program
Math Recovery is internationally recognized as a highly successful program of intervention in early number learning. The program is used extensively by school systems in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia. Math Recovery provides students with an extended period in which they are successful in number learning.
The purpose of Math Recovery is to:
- Identify at-risk students through a unique assessment system that allows educators to know exactly where students are in their mathematical development and apply necessary short-term intervention strategies
- Provide teachers with the intervention activities, tools and assessment materials in a detailed instructional system guaranteed to improve individual student performance in core arithmetic skills
- Build student confidence and help students attain success in mathematics and other curriculum areas
Each Elementary Building in District 196 has at least one Math Recovery Intervention Specialist. These specially trained teachers typically work with an individual First Grade student 30 minutes a day for a 12-15 week cycle. Math Recovery Intervention Specialists also provide support to their colleagues who teach primary mathematics.
