Middle School Math Testing and Assessments

Student Assessments
Assessment supports the learning of mathematics and provides useful information to students, teachers, parents and the public. Each student in district will take the following assessment during the course of the school year.

  • District Assessment Center Information

  • State Assessments for High School Math
MCA-II/III Grades 3-8 The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments—Series II are the state reading and mathematics tests that meet the requirements of No Child Left Behind. They are used to determine whether schools and districts have made adequate yearly progress toward all students being proficient in 2014.

Alternate Assessments
The U.S. Department of Education has authorized the development of alternate assessments based on alternate achievement standards and modified achievement standards for students who meet specific eligibility criteria. The purpose of alternate assessments is to measure the progress students with disabilities are making in the general curriculum. The U.S. Department of Education website offers federal guidelines and additional information. See Related Links.

The Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS), an alternate assessment based on alternate achievement standards, is for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. The MCA-Modified, an alternate assessment based on modified achievement standards, is for a small group of students whose disability precludes them from achieving grade-level proficiency. The first operational administration of the MCA-Modified is spring 2011.
